Are you stuck in your home? Bored as in bored? Well, for sure some of you might prefer movie marathons, or maybe stalk someone on social media, or back reading old conversations (Oooops). 

Or, maybe, perhaps you would opt to check the fridge to enjoy some foodstuff which has been lurking there for quite some time.

But hey, boredom can also lead you to some quality time in the kitchen with your family. 

Now, you can challenge yourself to leave that mobile phone, laptop or tv to beat that boredom by exploring your kitchen this time around. 

Here are some foodies to make this silly day wholesomely and burpingly productive.

We asked some food lovers about simple recipes that they would love to share and here are their answers:

MANGO AND CHEESE ROLL – Ellen Marie

Hello, mango and cheese lovers! This is a delicious snack from fresh mangoes and cheese that offer a sweet taste. The mango is a great contrast to the melty cheese and still goes well with mayonnaise and ketchup.

Ingredients

Spring Roll Wrapper or Lumpia Wrapper, Ripe Mangoes, Cheddar cheese

Oil Yolk to cover the wrapper

Mayonnaise, ketchup and a little bit of sriracha

Procedures

Prepare all the ingredients. Put the mangoes and cheese.

(Cooks note: It’s up to you what slices you want to put as long you will cover it all)

 Egg yolk to cover the wrapper. Then fry!

 Dipping sauce: Mayonnaise and ketchup with a little bit of sriracha

It is a great way to try something new in your kitchen whether you don’t know how to cook perfectly. The taste could really blend well in your preference. Perfect for this coming summer also a yummy snack this quarantine period. Very simple but surely it can satisfy your cravings.”

HOMEMADE CHICKEN SKIN WITH SWEET & SOUR SAUCE – Silak Cafe

Step-up your fave chicken skin.

This favorite snack is one of the many kinds of Chicharon in Philippine cuisine. Chicken Skins are credibly easy to make and a perfect snack for you and your family. This tasty snack satisfies your Pinoy’s fascination with a salty taste. You will find yourself munching on this crunchy snack.

Ingredients

1/2 Chicken Skin, Canola Oil, Flour, Black Pepper, Salt, Calamansi

Mixing Bowl/s, Deep frying pan, Steel Tongs

Preparations

The chicken should be rinsed & cleaned thoroughly with water, remove any remainders i.e., feathers/excess, etc., and pat dry. (We also recommend to trim it down into a smaller chunk for convenient frying.)

Marinate the skins in a bowl of pepper, salt and calamansi juice for at least 45 minutes refrigerated.

Pre-heat your deep frying pan.

Breading; Add a cup of flour in a mixing bowl, 1 teaspoon of salt & pepper.

After the marination process, bread the chicken skin before frying for 4-5mins.

Pan-searing the fried chicken skin in a sweat-sour sauce for a glazed version.

Or pair it with a spiced vinegar or sinamak for a sauce dip.

Chicken skin is a perfect snack for any occasion. It is simple but a yummy treat to those who love chicken meals so much. It is a versatile dish that can be glazed with your favorite sauce which can be eaten with rice or just a regular fry paired with your favorite dip.”

 POTATOES WITH CHEESY DIP – Shen Chang

If you love potatoes and cheese at the same time, then this recipe is perfectly fit for your eyes and to your taste buds as well. Cheesy madness with potatoes will be guaranteed comfort food at its easiest. This potato snack is worth the carbs. Yummerz!

Ingredients

1/2 kilo potatoes, 250 ml fresh milk, 1 sachet black pepper, 1 teaspoon flour

¼ bar butter, 1 cheese

Procedures

Chop the potatoes into cubes, season with pepper.

Fry the potatoes until golden brown then set aside.

Dipping sauce: Melt butter in the pan, add 1 teaspoon of flour (low heat) mix and add fresh milk, season with salt, then add cheese.

HOMEMADE KWEK-KWEK – Rocky

This ubiquitous street food is regularly found in the busy streets. Kwek-kwek is actually a popular after-school and after-work snacks in the Philippines. This beloved snack is orange quail eggs that are deep-fried and served with sweet and sour sauce. Now, are you craving for Kwek-kwek, but your neighborhood vendor has closed up for the day? You can try this at home.

Ingredients

For Kwek-Kwek – prepare boiled quail eggs

Sauce – slurry (a mixture of starch in liquid, e.g. cornstarch and liquid) – vinegar, salt, little soy sauce, sugar, and little ketchup

Batter – flour, white pepper, little yellow food coloring, little turmeric and salt, eggs for the batter, water, baking powder, sugar.

Combine all ingredients of batter, carefully mix a liquid with dry ingredients.

Place all the quail eggs in the mixing bowl and coat with the batter. Then deep fry!

For the sauce, add ginger and onions, bring all to simmer add slurry to desired thickness.

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES – Caile Sweet In Fusion

 Chocolate chip cookies delight.

Missing that childhood good old cookie? Try this chewy chocolate chip cookie to easily satisfy a sugar craving. This delicious treat, flat shape with the chocolate-y bite is really good for the sweet tooth.

INGREDIENTS

3 cups all-purpose flour, 3 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 cup granulate sugar, 1/2 brown sugar, 2 large eggs, 1 cup or 1 bar butter, 1 cup Chocolate chips

PROCEDURES

Mix the butter, sugar, eggs and add dry ingredients. Add 1 cup of chocolate chips.

Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
