PART 2 As promised in the first part of this Holy Week special, we bring to you its Part 2. This time, let’s see what these young professionals have to say about the meaning of the cross. THE CROSS IS A PERSONAL ENCOUNTER It was until I experienced God’s forgiveness and love in a personal level that the cross became more than just a religious symbol to me. I grew up with a view of the cross as something holy, a weapon to shoo away the evil ones, an “amulet” of protection, and maybe, a symbol of one’s closeness to God. I am not saying those are wrong, but I realized, the cross carries with it far greater meaning and power than I have ever imagined. The message of the cross is God’s ultimate love for people---people who are sinful, undeserving, fragile, rebellious, etc. etc. The cross cries out, “I do not care what you have done, I do not care if you have hurt me, I do not care how ugly your sins are, I have forgiven you, long before you have ever acknowledged me.” And over and over, I have seen this message of the cross change the lives of so many people, including my own. Now, the cross for me is an assurance of my eternal life, that my salvation is not dependent on my own efforts and ability, because Jesus has already gained it for me. The cross is my freedom from insecurities and fears, brought about by my frailties. The cross is my healing from brokenness. And it is my constant reminder of how significant I am, apart from my achievements, my looks, my possessions, whatever I have... because the King of all Kings (not just somebody) died for me. Now, the cross for me is an assurance of my eternal life, that my salvation is not dependent on my own efforts and ability, because Jesus has already gained it for me. Well, the cross means a lot but I guess a lot is an understatement because for me the cross is a symbol of EVERYTHING. The message of the cross became the marker that brought the complete meaning of the life that we were given. Life to Death and Death to Life, because Christ died for all of us, by giving his life for our sins, we then have received a new life! Through his resurrection we have received the Gift of Salvation. Saving us and giving us freedom from the wages of sin that is eternal death. And then before, I was like, why? Who are we in this world to receive this gift? And the answer turned out to be the greatest Love we could ever receive! The Cross was a choice, a sacrifice, and sacrifice means the ultimate Love. Then more occurred to me that His cross is also the beacon of Faith, Hope, and Love. Faith – A pre-requisite to all of this, for without Faith all that he has done would not mean anything! We come to God because we believe in him and this pleases him. Hope – a gift given to us through his grace to combat the challenges, sufferings, and difficulties in life that we face. Hope is the invisible hand we hold on to that holds us up. Love - God loves us so much that he chose to redeem all of us. God is love! Greater than both because love is the foundation of Hope and Faith. So when I look at the cross, I am reminded of how gracious God is, thus the symbol of everything! And what does the cross mean? What does the message of the cross brought to us? For me, the CROSS is the only symbol of Victory and great Love of Jesus to His people. We know that at the time of Jesus, the cross symbolizes shame, terror, shows that you are a criminal and even a symbol of death. The Cross symbolizes pain, problems, sacrifices, and trials that are temporary because I know that God gives us our “Cross” to make us realize His everlasting love that He won’t leave us in times of trials and to draw us closer to Him. What we should always do in times of troubles is to seek God and talk to Him directly. In general, Victory is the unrivaled word to describe the Cross. Why? It is because the death of Jesus saves us from our sins, he became selfless so that compassion, tranquility and benevolence will rule over cruelty and inequity. When we fight against Satan we triumph because we let Jesus Christ enter our inner self, and when somebody is possessed by bad spirit we let them hold a crucifix and let Jesus take over the battle against Satan, after all the triumph is with Jesus, literally, our Savior. In this Easter season, it is the reason of God’s Love for us, He is Risen, He is with us, He will never leave us. In this time of Pandemic COVID-19 let us turn our back to God, have a deep true faith, and make him again our strength. We may come from different walks of life. Our experiences may change as we live, but one thing stays true for sure – the love of God is unconditional. He loves us so much that He let His only son, Jesus Christ to bear our sins. God gave us His only son to bear our shame. Jesus Christ, God's son, died on the cross so that we may all overcome death.
