‘Kawawa nurses natin’: Bello, nirekomenda ang pay hike para sa mga private medical workers



SUPORTADO ni Labor Secretary Bello III ang proposal na bigyan ng substantial wage increase ang mga private-sector nurses at medical workers.

Aniya, nanawagan siya pandemic task force ng gobyerno na i-endorso sa Kongreso ang planned salary adjustment na kapareho sa tinatanggap ng mga government nurses at medical workers.

“Sabi ni [Health Secretary Francisco] Duque III, they will do that in due time. Ang mahal maging nurse. Ang hirap maging nurse tapos susuweldo ka lang ng P10,000 . . . If I will be asked, I will strongly recommend na ipataas,” giit ni Bello.

Tinaasan taong 2020 ang minimum base pay ng mga government nurses sa salary Grade 15 na P32,000 mula sa salary Grade 11 na P22,000.

Pero, ang mga private nurses ay tumatanggap lamang ng “insulting low” monthly average salary na P5,000 hanggang P10,000, mababa sa minimum wage, ayon sa union.

“Nurses cannot even afford their own basic needs, much more of their families’ basic survival like food on the table, basic education for siblings and/or children, medical expenses of elderly parents and decent housing,” pahayag ni Filipino Nurses United vice president Leni Nolasco.

Nirekomenda ni Bello ang P500 hazard pay para sa mga nurses at medical workers sa mga pribadong ospital, kapareho sa tinatanggap ng ilang counterparts sa mga government health center sa panahon ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Nanawagan din si Bello na tanggalin na ang contractual work agreements sa mga health care workers sa mga private hospitals dahil mas importante umano ang kanilang trabaho.
