A project of the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI), the confab is aimed at renewing the ties and commitment of its members from various community newspapers nationwide and serve as a venue in coming up with necessary plan of actions to deal with the challenges confronting the community press.
Mandated under Presidential Proclamation 1187 declaring December every year as the Month of the Community Press in the Service of the Nation, the annual media event also tasks PAPI as lead group for the yearly observance.
PAPI President Nelson Santos, publisher of Finders Ads and CEO of Lecson Publishing and Services Inc., said the event expects to gather some 300 publishers, editors, broadcasters, commentators, columnists, writers, photo journalist, news reporters, and campus journalists as well as government public information officers.
PAPI chairman emeritus and this year’s conference chairman Johnny P. Dayang, meanwhile, said representatives of some foreign news agencies and press attaches are also expected to join in the event, which will also highlight the celebration of PAPI’s 45th year of “fraternal leadership, service to the nation, and responsible media practice advocacy.”
He said discussions during the press congress will revolve on the core theme, “Media, Environment Care, Tourism and LGUs Partnership towards meaningful growth.”
For his part, PAPI liaison for the Visayas Jonathan Cabrera of Todo Media, which operates broadcast, television, newspaper, and digital media platforms, enjoins media personnel as well as public information officers to actively participate in this year’s press congress stressing that he is confident that this opportunity will not only generate goodwill among themselves but will also be an opportune time to thoroughly analyze and discuss the vital role of the fourth estate on the meaningful economic and social reforms in the country today.
Media players who may be interested to participate in the event may contact Nelson Santos at 0917-8448730, or Johnny Dayang at 0949-1294777.
The National Press Congress will also signal the launching of PAPI’s 5-year agenda of activities during the Kalibo and Boracay event, leading to PAPI’s 50-year celebration or golden anniversary.
