TODAY IN HISTORY MAY 3, 1952: NARATING ANG NORTH POLE SA KAUNA-UNAHANG PAKAKATAON

Unang narating ng isang aircraft ang North Pole sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon noong May 3, 1952.


Ang aircraft na ito ay isang  ski-modified U.S. Air Force C-47, na ang mga piloto ay sina Lieutenant Colonel Joseph O. Fletcher ng Oklahoma at Lieutenant Colonel William P. Benedict ng California. Ilang sandali matapos ang makasaysayang paglapag ng nasabing eroplano, bumaba si Fletcher at naglakad patungo sa mismong geographic location ng North Pole. Sinasabing si Fletcher marahil ang unang tap sa kasaysayan na  gumawa nito.

Nakasama ni Fletcher sa tuktok ng mundo si Dr. Albert P. Crary, isang scientist na bumyahe noong 1961 sa South Pole gamit ang isang motorized vehicle. Si Crary ang itinuturing na kauna-unahang tao sa kasaysayan na nakarating sa North at South Pole.
