Nasa “early stages” na ng Covid-19 surge ang NCR dahil sa mapanganib na Delta Variant – OCTA

Ayon sa OCTA Research group ang National Capital Region ay nasa “early stages” na ng isang COVID-19 surge matapos magkaroon ng spike ng infections dahil sa mas nakakahawang Covid-19 Delta Variant.

“We cannot underestimate the COVID-19 uptick in the NCR because of the possibility that it MAY be driven by the Delta variant,” pahayag ng OCTA sa mga reporters.

Inulat ng grupo na ang average number ng bagong daily cases sa Metro Manila ay nasa 813 mula July 15 hanggang 21, kung saan 27% na mas mataas kumpara sa 638 noong isang linggo.

“The OCTA research group believes that a surge in its early stages has started in the NCR,” sinabi ng independent research group sa isang pahayag.

Ayon kay ABS-CBN Data Analytics head na si Edson Guido, may naitala silang 1,027 bagong mga kaso nitong Miyerkules sa rehiyon, ito ang pinaka-mataas na naitala sa halos dalawang buwan o mula noong Hunyo 10.

Dagdag pa ni Guido na ito raw ang unang beses na nagkaroon ng karagdagang infections sa NCR na lumagpas sa 1,000 sa parehong period.

Naniniwala rin ang OCTA na kailangan ng “urgent and decisive response” mula sa national government at sa mga LGUs para ma-reverse ang tumataas na trend ng mga kaso.

“At the very least, the IATF must contemplate a stricter quarantine status or impose more restrictions in the NCR,” saad ng OCTA. “The current GCQ status without restrictions will not be enough.”

Binigyang diin ng OCTA na ang napapanahon at naaangkop na mga interbensyon na kailangan gawin ay ang pag-iimplement ng mga lockdowns at pag-eexpand ng testing at contact tracing para harapin ang “impending surge” sa Metro Manila.

Nabanggit din ng mga researches na ang “delayed response” ng gobyerno ang dahilan kung bakit nagkaroon ng deadly surge ng COVID-19 cases noong Marso.

“Lets us learn from the lessons of other countries where effective control of the epidemic was lost because institutions acted too little and too late. If Delta is driving this surge, we need to crush it with lockdowns (localized and regional) and with expanded testing and tracing before it explodes and creates a catastrophic surge,” saad ng grupo.

“Let us not wait for the numbers to explode before we act… We have a window of opportunity to reverse this surge. Let us act decisively and collectively. We need to act now,” dagdag ng OCTA.
